Student Board of Education Members

High school juniors can now apply to serve as student representatives on the Board of Education for the 2020-21 school year. The application is available below. Applications are due to Mr. Jackson, via email, by Friday, May 15.

Student Board members attend monthly board meetings, and serve as advisory, non-voting members of the Board of Education for one school year. They will give the board a student perspective in discussions. They will report to the board about student activities, and report to the student council on behalf of the board.

The District has traditionally chosen two students to serve as student Board members.

Student Board members serve a term of office from September to May of their senior year. The Student Representative for the East Aurora School District 131 Board of Education serves as both a representative of the Board to students, as well as a representative of students to the Board.

In order to be a Student Board Member, the Student Representative must be in good academic standing and in the process of completing all requirements for graduation.

STUDENT VOICES

Resources for Students by Students – Home of the Student Advisory Council

ISBE’s Student Advisory Council welcomes you, the students of Illinois, to explore resources and ask questions that we can bring to the State Board from a student’s perspective. We are here to represent you and we want to hear your voice!

Each year a group of students are chosen from around the state to be student advisors to the board. This group of students have the opportunity to see the State Board’s policymakers in action and work with them to provide student perspectives and concerns on the state’s education policies. Students come together a handful of times throughout the year and work remotely on a research project that is presented to the Board. Applications are available in the spring and students are chosen over the summer with their work beginning in September and culminating with a presentation to the Board in March.

Are you passionate about education policy and want to use your voice to represent the students of Illinois?

Applications for the 2020-2021 Student Advisory Council are now open. If you are interested in applying and you are going to be a sophomore, junior, or senior at a public high school during the 2020-2021 school year, please submit your application by 5:00 p.m. on May 29, 2020.
