Dear East Aurora High School Tomcat Families,

Welcome to another exciting school year at East Aurora High School! As your proud principal, I, Jennifer Mitchell, am thrilled to connect with you and share some of the wonderful things happening within our school community.

At East Aurora High School, our commitment to your student’s success is at the heart of everything we do. We believe in fostering an environment where every student can thrive, grow, and achieve their fullest potential. This year, we are particularly focused on three key school improvement goals that will help us continue to elevate the educational experience for all Tomcats.

  1. Cultivating Lifelong Learners and Academic Rigor: We are dedicated to empowering our incredible teachers with the tools and strategies they need to create dynamic classrooms. This means focusing on differentiated instruction, where lessons are tailored to meet the unique needs of each student, ensuring that learning is engaging, challenging, and prepares them for a future of continuous learning.
  2. Expanding Academic Rigor Through Collaborative Discussion: We are enhancing our focus on challenging coursework and high expectations by encouraging more collaborative discussions in the classroom. When students engage in meaningful conversations, they deepen their understanding, develop critical thinking skills, and learn from diverse perspectives. Our educators are committed to building comprehensive support systems to ensure every student feels confident tackling these challenges and is well-prepared for higher education and professional environments.
  3. Strengthening Our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS): We are refining our approach to student support by explicitly focusing on Tier 1 supports. This means establishing clear structures and guidelines to provide foundational support for all students in the classroom, addressing academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs proactively. Our goal is to ensure every student has the robust support system they need to succeed.

A crucial component of student success is consistent attendance. We want to emphasize the importance of students being present in class and actively engaged in their learning. Our focus this year includes minimizing distractions and ensuring students are in their classrooms, not in the hallways during instructional time. This dedicated time in class is vital for absorbing material, participating in discussions, and receiving direct support from teachers, all of which are essential for academic growth and achievement.

We are incredibly excited about these goals and the positive impact they will have on our students. We believe that by working together – students, families, and staff – we can create an exceptional learning environment where every Tomcat feels valued, challenged, and prepared for a bright future.

En East Aurora High School, nuestro compromiso con el éxito de sus estudiantes está en el corazón de todo lo que hacemos.   1. Cultivar aprendices de por vida y el rigor académico: Estamos dedicados a empoderar a nuestros increíbles maestros con las herramientas y estrategias que necesitan para crear salones de clase dinámicos. Esto significa centrarse en la instrucción diferenciada, donde las lecciones se adaptan para satisfacer las necesidades únicas de cada estudiante, asegurando que el aprendizaje es atractivo, desafiante, y los prepara para un futuro de aprendizaje continuo.
  2. Ampliar el rigor académico mediante debates colaborativo: Estamos reforzando nuestro enfoque en cursos exigentes y altas expectativas fomentando más debates colaborativos en los salones de clase. Cuando los estudiantes participan en conversaciones significativas, profundizan su comprensión, desarrollan habilidades de pensamiento crítico y aprenden de diversas perspectivas. Nuestros educadores están comprometidos con la creación de sistemas de apoyo integrales para garantizar que todos los estudiantes se sientan seguros de sí mismos al abordar estos desafíos y que estén bien preparados para la educación superior y los entornos profesionales.
  3. Fortalecimiento de nuestro Sistema de Apoyo Multinivel (MTSS): Estamos perfeccionando nuestro enfoque de apoyo estudiantil, al enfocarnos específicamente en los apoyos de Nivel 1. Esto implica establecer estructuras y directrices claras para brindar un apoyo fundamental a todos los estudiantes en el salón de clases, abordando sus necesidades académicas, conductuales y socioemocionales de forma proactiva. Nuestro objetivo es garantizar que cada estudiante cuente con el sólido sistema de apoyo que necesita para alcanzar el éxito.

Un componente crucial del éxito de los estudiantes es la asistencia constante. Queremos enfatizar la importancia de que los estudiantes estén presentes en clase y participen activamente en su aprendizaje. Nuestro enfoque este año incluye minimizar las distracciones y asegurar que los estudiantes estén en sus salones de clase, no en los pasillos durante el tiempo de instrucción. Este tiempo de dedicación en clase es vital para absorber el material, participar en los debates y recibir apoyo directo de los/las maestros(as), todos lo que es esencial para el crecimiento y el rendimiento académico.

Estamos increíblemente entusiasmados con estos objetivos y el impacto positivo que tendrán en nuestros estudiantes. Creemos que trabajando juntos – estudiantes, familias y personal – podemos crear un ambiente de aprendizaje excepcional donde cada Tomcat se sienta valorado, desafiado y preparado para un futuro brillante.
