The East Aurora Aurora High School Class of 2017 will graduate in the Convocation Center at Northern Illinois University at 7 p.m. Friday, May 26, 2017. Doors will open at 6 p.m. for guests. Click here for a map of Convocation Center parking.

What students should wear to 2017 graduation

Boys – Dress pants, shirt with collar, tie, and dark dress shoes (no athletic shoes). Only school-sanctioned adornments will be allowed on caps or gowns.
Girls – Dress, dress skirt or slacks and blouse, dress shoes. (Girls are not allowed to carry purses during the ceremony.) Only school-sanctioned adornments will be allowed on caps or gowns.

Graduation information for students

  • A graduation rehearsal is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2017 at East Aurora High School. Any graduate expecting to participate in the NIU ceremony must attend rehearsal.
  • At graduation rehearsal, each graduate will receive 10 graduation tickets. Everyone, including children, must have a ticket to enter the NIU Convocation Center. Babies younger than one year old may enter with a ticketed adult and are encouraged to sit on a lap during the ceremony. No baby carriers or strollers will be accommodated.
  • Additional Commencement Ceremony tickets may be available on Friday, May 26, 2017 at the ticket booth near Door #1 beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the tickets are gone. Graduates, with their student ID, will be allowed to have a maximum of four (4) additional tickets on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • It is mandatory for all graduating seniors to ride on the school-provided buses to the Convocation Center. Graduates will have the option of riding back to East High School on the bus, or driving home with their parents. Graduates must report to East Aurora High School Door 1 for the bus to the NIU Convocation Center. The bus will depart East Aurora High School at exactly 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 26, 2017.
  • Students and parents will be notified in advance if there are any academic, discipline, or financial concerns that may affect their graduating. Please take care of any concerns or questions as soon as you are notified of them.
  • Graduates will not be allowed to carry coats, purses, flowers, balloons, stuffed animals, cell/mobile phones, or any other personal items or celebratory paraphernalia into the auxiliary gym. Please leave these items with your parent or guardian before reporting to the auxiliary gym.
  • Cell phone use will not be allowed during the ceremony. Graduates who are using a cell phone during the ceremony will be escorted out of the building.
  • After the ceremony, the recessional will lead directly into the auxiliary gym, where graduates will pick up their actual diplomas. Graduates will need their student ID to pick up their diploma.
  • Parents are to leave the NIU Convocation Center immediately following the ceremony to wait for their graduates outside. Please consider pre-determining a reunification point to meet your students after the ceremony has ended. Suggested locations are:
    • Door #1 – Last names beginning with A-F
    • Door #2 – Last names beginning with G-L
    • Door #3 – Last names beginning with M-R
    • Door #4 – Last names beginning with S-Z
  • Once students have picked up their diploma, they will make their way outside to meet up with their family and friends.
