On March 3rd, East Aurora High School will be hosting its second annual Hispanic Serving Institution Local College Fair. Hispanic Serving Institutions, or HSI, are defined “as not-for-profit colleges and universities where at least 25% of the full-time equivalent (FTE) undergraduate enrollment is Hispanic.” We are fortunate in the state of Illinois to have 22 colleges and universities that meet this definition, with 19 others that are identified as emerging HSI. There are also schools in Northwest Indiana that fit this same standard, and are readily accessible to Aurora-area students. In recognition of the East Aurora population and the importance of representation and opportunity for our student body, the HSI Mini College Fair strives to connect our wonderful college-bound Tomcats with nurturing and dynamic institutions that respect and appreciate them. Already several schools throughout the Chicagoland area have signed up, with more expected to RSVP in the coming weeks. HSI, just like HBCU and PBI, employ a multiculturally-informed educational lens, to create access and opportunity for all students, regardless of racial or cultural background. The March 3rd HSI Local Fair will run in the Atrium area from 11 AM until 2 PM. All interested students and classes are welcome to attend. Members of the Class of 2027 and the Class of 2026 are particularly encouraged to participate.
