Earlier this week in celebration of Black History Month, the EAHS Counseling Department invited community area members to East Aurora High School to speak to prospective students about their experiences at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and Greek Life on campus. Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) were established prior to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and were created in order to educate African American students. As of 2024, there are currently 101 active institutions in the United States who are designated as an HBCU. Representatives spoke to our students about the sense of community on campus and benefits to attending an HBCU. Community members emphasized how impactful their experiences were and how influential it was on their lives. We had area members from several institutions such as Howard University, Southern University and A&M College, Texas Southern University and more. They also represented various Greek sorority and fraternity organizations like Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
