State Superintendent Dr. Ayala visits East HighLa Superintendente Estatal Dra. Ayala visita preparatoria del Este

On November 20, East High School welcomed some special guests, as State Rep. Barbara Hernandez hosted State Superintendent Dr. Carmen Ayala and State Board Member Cynthia Latimer for a tour of the school. School Board member Mr. Alex Arroyo, Superintendent Dr. Norrell, Principal Jonathan Simpson and his leadership team at East High, joined in welcoming Dr. Ayala and Ms. Latimer. Tomcat Mario Garcia, along with NJROTC cadets Tim Gehler, Brenda Acosta, Joanna Franco, and Juan Alcala greeted the visitors at the door.

The tour began at the Iron Paw Restaurant, where our culinary students served a delicious, made-to-order breakfast. Freshman students Jocelyn and Mayra Espinoza-Villa spoke on how the recently increased number of AP offerings at East High have benefited students. Culinary instructor Kristin Ducette, and students Barakat Adekola, Trent Payton, Daniela Herrera, and Cristian Prieto shared more about the popular culinary program at East High. Afterwards, Mr. Arroyo and the high school team led our guests on a quick tour of the fine arts wing and atrium area. Thank you to Dr. Ayala and Ms. Latimer for your visit, and to Representative Hernandez, for hosting. And a big thank you to our amazing Tomcats, who once again served as outstanding ambassadors for East High and District 131. 

Fast Facts: Dr. Carmen Ayala began her career as a teacher in District 131, and also served as assistant superintendent and director of bilingual services. Ms. Cynthia Latimer began her career as a special education teacher in East Aurora, and later served as principal at Beaupre Elementary.

El 20 de noviembre, la preparatoria del Este dio la bienvenida a algunos invitados especiales, ya que la representante estatal Barbara Hernández recibió a la superintendente estatal Dra. Carmen Ayala y a la miembro de la junta estatal Cynthia Latimer para un recorrido por la escuela. El miembro de la Junta Educativa, el Sr. Alex Arroyo, el Superintendente Dra. El recorrido comenzó en el restaurante Iron Paw, donde nuestros estudiantes de gastronomía sirvieron un delicioso desayuno a pedido. Los estudiantes de primer año Jocelyn y Mayra Espinoza-Villa hablaron sobre cómo el reciente aumento en el número de ofertas de AP en la preparatoria del Este ha beneficiado a los estudiantes. La instructora culinaria Kristin Ducette y los estudiantes Barakat Adekola, Trent Payton, Daniela Herrera y Cristian Prieto compartieron más sobre el popular programa culinario en la preparatoria del Este. Luego, el Sr. Arroyo y el equipo de la escuela preparatoria guiaron a nuestros invitados en un recorrido rápido por el ala de las bellas artes y el área del atrio. Gracias a Dar. Ayala y a la Sra. Latimer por su visita, y a la Representante Hernández, por ser la anfitrióna. Y muchas gracias a nuestros increíbles Tomcats, que una vez más sirvieron como embajadores sobresalientes del Este y el Distrito 131.

Datos rápidos: la Dra. Carmen Ayala comenzó su carrera como maestra en el Distrito 131, y también se desempeñó como superintendente asistente y directora de servicios bilingües. La Sra. Cynthia Latimer comenzó su carrera como maestra de educación especial en el Este de Aurora, y más tarde se desempeñó como Principal de la primaria Beaupre.
