A Letter from the Principal

Hello Tomcats!

First, my apologies for not sending this message to you a bit sooner. However, today I want to provide you with some important updates regarding events designed to celebrate our Class of 2020.

We recently received further direction on graduation from the Kane County Health Department, as well as the Kane County Regional Office of Education. Together they recommend that school districts in Kane County do not conduct any type of in-person graduation ceremony, based on current levels of COVID-19 activity in Kane County. DuPage County officials have also issued these recommendations.

The Restore Illinois Plan specifies different phases. We expect to move to Phase 3 by May 29. Phase 3 allows for gatherings of 10 or fewer. You may have heard about other high schools holding small in-person graduations. These events are being held in other counties where they do not have the same limitations.

Unfortunately, from the direction and recommendations given, we must cancel the Prom event that was rescheduled for July 18, as well as the in-person graduation ceremony scheduled for August 1.

We feel so badly for all our students and families, and we know you are disappointed, too.

If there is any consolation through all of this bad news, it is that through a creative and safe way, we are able to honor our Class of 2020 through a “virtual” graduation. Please be sure to see information on the Virtual Graduation Ceremony scheduled for July 23 at 5:00 p.m. I strongly encourage all our Class of 2020 to participate.

The Virtual Graduation Ceremony will allow us to have key aspects of a traditional ceremony with speeches and a student processional. Students will have an individual slide and audio clip that recognizes their graduation and their accomplishments.

We want to do everything possible to celebrate and recognize our seniors. In addition to distributing yard signs, spotlighting our Seniors on social media, and holding the professional virtual graduation, East High will publish a booklet celebrating and commemorating our Class of 2020.

The last week of May we also hosted a drive-through cap & gown pick-up at East High in vehicles. I hope you and your student were able to attend. If not, please stop by Door #8 of the high school between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to pick up your cap and gown, cords and honors.

Seniors, please continue to monitor your student email account for important messages from StageClip and MarchingOrder. Please watch the district/high school websites, social media accounts, and phone blast system, for updated information.

If you have any questions on this information, please know you can reach out directly with questions at jsimpson@d131.org or 630-299-8130. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Professionally,
Jonathan Simpson, Principal

East High School to celebrate Class of 2020 with virtual graduation

East Aurora High School will celebrate the Class of 2020 with a Virtual Graduation Ceremony. The online event will take place on Thursday, July 23, at 5:00 p.m.

The virtual graduation event is being held in response to the current challenges surrounding the COVID-19 global health crisis. The May 22 traditional graduation ceremony was postponed and is currently rescheduled to take place on August 1 at Northern Illinois University.

While there is no clear indication on whether it will be possible to hold a traditional ceremony in August, a committee of East High leadership, including students and parents, all wanted to be certain the Class of 2020 was honored for their accomplishments.

“While we know that the virtual event doesn’t make up for an in-person graduation ceremony, we still want to celebrate and honor the resilient Class of 2020,” said Jon Simpson, principal at East High School. “Moving forward with the virtual graduation gives us a safe opportunity to celebrate.”

East High School has partnered with Herff Jones, in collaboration with technology partners StageClip and MarchingOrder, to hold the virtual graduation ceremony and recognize this year’s graduates.

Seniors will soon be contacted by Herff Jones and its partners through their District 131 student email address, with direction on how their photo and information will be collected prior to the final celebration.

The virtual ceremony will include all speeches that would take place in a traditional graduation, as well as recognition of academic awards and honors.

On the day of the virtual graduation ceremony, students and their families will visit a website hosted by StageClip that will allow them to experience a communal moment while they all watch the ceremony all at once. They will be able to view their photos and hear their names announced as part of a customized, personalized graduation experience.

East High announces rescheduled dates for prom, graduation

East Aurora High School has announced new dates for two major events affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

East High’s Prom has been rescheduled to Saturday, July 18, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. at the Hilton Double Tree, Lisle/Naperville.

The Class of 2020 Graduation Ceremony has been rescheduled to Saturday, August 1, 2020, at 2:30 p.m. at the Northern Illinois University Convocation Center.

District 131 has formed a district-wide committee to explore options for other events affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The committee will develop additional back up plans, as needed, in the event that the August 1 Graduation cannot be held due to restrictions related to COVID-19.

Cap and Gown Ordering for the Class of 2020

With final exams in full swing and the start of second semester right around the corner, the East Aurora High School Graduation Ceremony on May 22 will be here before we know it.  Despite over 750 expected graduates, only 500 have already ordered their Cap and Gown for the event, and far fewer have paid for the garments. Any member of the senior class with questions about their cap and gown order can call Elizbeth Elsner at Herff Jones at 815-756-4743 or email her at eelsner-1@herffjones.com. If a member of the class of 2020 knows they have not ordered their cap and gown yet, they can do so at www.HerffJonesIL.com. Follow the link below for step by step instructions on ordering caps and gowns online.

Una carta del director

29 de mayo de 2020

Hola Tomcats!
